Empowered Employee Training

Empowered Employee Training was designed for organizations to support the advancement of women in the workplace and professionally. There is a special focus on challenges faced by women but the curriculum is fully applicable and relevant for men, adolescents and all levels of an organization. The Empowered Employee Training Handbook provides approximately four days of gender, empowerment, and leadership training curricula and tools that can be implemented to better support women (and male) employees and professionals. Thoughtful planning and preparation by organizers is required in order to successfully implement this training. Trainers and implementing organizations should complete a Human-Centered Design (HCD) Plan, which will help you prepare a successful, customized training using the materials. Before completing the HCD Plan, read and become familiar with the Handbook lesson plans and content. This version of the Handbook was adapted for industries with historically low female representation in particular, but has applicability to all organizations across various sectors.

Why conduct training related to personal agency and leadership?

Training that integrates personal agency (also referred to as agency-based empowerment) concepts and leadership strategies has immense opportunity to strengthen the capacity and effectiveness of professionals. Personal agency enhances an individual’s cognitive capacity to create and focus on their goals, and leadership skills enable the tangible realization of these goals. Research conducted by the Self-Empowerment & Equity for Change (SEE Change) team has demonstrated the impacts personal agency and leadership training and support can have, particularly on women’s confidence, motivation and resilience. This Handbook equips organizations / companies to foster women’s empowerment and support women employees in overcoming challenges related to their advancement. It focuses on skills needed to surmount social and psychological obstacles, and strategies to work creatively around external limitations and obstacles.
